Days Of Grace

As I lay here, about to undergo my cancer surgery, knowing the chances of dying are great, I look back on the decisions I have made in my life. Some good, and some bad. I advise you to learn from my mistakes and not make them yourself. First of all, if your sister asks you if the iron is hot or cold, DO NOT put your hand on it to see. Just look to see if the light is on that says “on”. Never again will I touch an iron…
When your parents ask you to do something, do it! If you don’t it will end up being worse that doing what they asked, and besides that, you will still have to do what you got in trouble for not doing. Always listen to your parents, no matter how ridiculous they seem at the moment.
Although some choices are hard to make, always choose what you think will have the best out come.

Vantage

Something that is a vantage is not a fair fight. Just like if a Great Dane and a Chihuahua were to fight, who do you think would win? The Great Dane, hands down. I consider that an unfair fight.

Intricate

Intricate is fine detail or complexity. I think of hand carved chairs and tables. Some of these have extreme detail and must have taken a lot of time and have been complicated to make.

Fathom

Fathom is a unit of depth (a length of six feet) or to come to understand something like the depth of poetry. I thought of a scuba diver diving several fathoms under the sea.

Annihilate

Annihilate is to completely destroy or take away hope. I think of the California wildfires when I think of annihilate. Not only did they destroy almost anything in their path, but many people were left without hope as they found they had lost their homes.

Obsession

To be obsessed is to have an addiction to something or not to be able to think about anything but one certain thing. I have read many stories of people who have pet sugar gliders and become addicted to them, and all they can think about are sugar gliders.

Surmise

Surmise is to have a conclusion not based on strong evidence. Just like what came first, the chicken or the egg? People have their own thoughts on this and there is no clear evidence to show which came first.

Complicit

Complicit is to be involved in illegal activity. When I think of illegal things, I think of getting in trouble and going to court.

Cognizant

Cognizant is to be aware or mindful. When I think about this I think of having others on your mind, and thinking of others. Kind of like an idea, but involving others in your thoughts.

Affliction

Affliction is something that you or others suffer from. When I think of something people suffer from I think of Insomnia.

Inciting

Inciting is to encourage unlawful activities. When I think of this I think of the movies where people pay others to do illegal activities. Usually involving a briefcase of money.

Solace

Solace is comfort or something positive in a negative situation. An example of tis is that if you are lost in a desert, it would be quite pleasant to find an oasis with trees and water.

Renovate

To renovate is to fix or repair or to make new. My house recently had a big leak and we basically had to renovate the whole room, and the bathroom which caused the leak. We had to have a hole cut into our wall to start the rnovations, so that is why i chose this picture.

Mired

Mired is a swampy bog or a challenging situation. Spider webs are twisty and tangly, and if you get stuck in a web (tangled we of lies) it is defiantly a difficult situation.

Moving Poetry

Walking down,
These streets untold,
Not Knowing when,
The truth unfolds,
So many secrets,
Still unknown,
Wanting to be let go,
When will the secrets,
All be known,
When will they share,
Their unknown soul,
The must speak out,
They must be known.

Guns Germs and Steel

1. Describe the difference between bands, tribes, chiefdoms, and states.

Bands: Small groups of people or nomads, that have a lack of government.
Tribes: A group of families that live together and form a bigger group of families. Like a really small town. They also lack government.
Chiefdoms: A large group of people. Similar to a city with thousands of people, and a lot of families. Unlike bands and tribes, chiefdoms have a government.
States: A place with more than one million people. Has a government, and usually a leader, like a Governor or another government official.

2. What is something interesting that I took from this chapter?

I think that it was really interesting how the chapter discussed the difference between Bands, Tribes, Chiefdoms and states. Out of the four of these i only knew what a state was and what a tribe was. But i also learned more about those. I did not know that a tribe does not have a government, I guess I am so used to having a government that I assumed that most people have one. Boy was I wrong. I think that the most interesting thing was that I know what a Chiefdom is. I had never heard that word before until I read this chapter. It is very similar to a state, except with less people and not necessarily one specific leader that has more power than others.
